Big things happening!

We are finally experiencing a glimpse of Spring weather and I am so thankful we were able to get out and enjoy it as a family yesterday!  Right around the corner is Anne Springs Close Greenway and what a wonderful place it is. We spread out a blanket, had a picnic sponsored by Subway and watched the planes fly overhead and horses run by. Freddie thanked us for such a fun picnic!  It was wonderful...and for the brief hour or so we were out there, life couldn't have been more perfect. Logan was snuggled in his stroller taking it all in.
Family picnic in the park!

Such a beautiful place! We had such a great time!

When we arrived, as Fred and Freddie were getting everything settled, we got a call from our sweet friend and Realtor that she was waiting on an offer on our house!  WOW!  God blesses us all the time.  I jumped up and down in the parking lot...and I'm sure passersby thought I might be a little strange.  We countered back last night, so we'll see what happens.  This would really answer so many prayers for us, so hopefully this is the one. All in God's time.

My sweet boys!

So we had a great day, enjoyed the sunshine, the local greenway, the boys running and throwing the football...everything we are supposed to be enjoying as a young family with two amazing children.  I thank God for that time, because when we got home it all changed.  Logan fell asleep on the way home so we unpacked the car before getting him out hoping he could stay asleep for a little while longer. He has such a tough time sleeping during the day for some reason.  But before we could get him out he had a seizure. We've started counting the mini seizures that he has in a cluster.  Just hours before we left the house he had a small one that included about 30 of the mini seizures which he recovered from well.  But this one was a big one.  We counted at least 75 and knew that we were in for a long few hours.

Typically with these that are bad he cries for a couple of hours and his body just continues to twitch off and on. As soon as his little body relaxes and he calms down a little, his face or leg or arm will "jump" again and he cries out like he is in so much pain.  It's brutal to watch and listen to, I can only imagine how awful it is for him. We gave him additional medicine to try and stop the process, but it did nothing. He and I went into mine and Fred's bedroom and just hung out until it was over. The whole process of this one from the beginning in the car until he finally calmed down and stopped twitching lasted at least 3 1/2 hours, and then he had another seizure to round it out before we put him to bed.

After a great PT session. A rare, sweet sight.

So we've realized over the last two weeks, that his seizures have actually gotten worse.  He has anywhere from 3-5 seizure clusters a day which result in anywhere from 50-100 mini seizures, at least.  But when he is not actually having a seizure it seems like he is fighting one coming on, recovering from one or just wiped out from all the seizure activity. It is absolutely no way for anyone to live and we intend to keep searching until we feel like we have exhausted all of our resources in finding help for him. Logan deserves a better life than this and it makes me frustrated and angry all at the same time.

The one thing though that helped to calm him down yesterday...really the only thing....was prayer. When it would get so bad I would pray and just ask God to comfort him and almost immediately he would begin to calm down.  That's always the answer, isn't it?

Well, we received a counter to our counter on the house....and I think we're going to take it. Our pediatrician is going to fax all the info and referral to MUSC on Monday so we can head there for a second opinion for Logan and we are in the process of building a small, lake cottage on our lot. There is so much in the works, but I know God's hand is guiding all of it.

Tonight we are blessed to be able to spend the night in uptown Charlotte...just Fred and me.  Wow. There is a NC Pest Management Association meeting tomorrow and Fred and I are attending the dinner tonight and then staying in Uptown, while Nana and Papa watch the boys for us.  We can't thank them enough, as usual.

During my writing of this post, we accepted the offer and are hoping to close on this house in just over a month. We will certainly need the Lord's strength and guidance through this process as well, but we are thrilled to at least be moving in the right direction.

Hope you're all having a great day and enjoying the beauty that can only be created by God!  Have a wonderful Sunday!

Ellen,
CONGRATULATIONS on the house - you deserve a break, and I'm glad you're getting one in the form of a buyer!!
I'm glad to be able to get caught up on what your sweet family is up to, but sad to hear that Logan's seizures are getting worse instead of abating, and that they are so tough on him. Poor little guy! You are such a strong mommy - but I wish you didn't have to be! You all are in my thoughts as always.
love, Marie

So glad about the offer on the house and the opportunity to go to Charleston. We will keep praying for more answers and help for Logan. What a beautiful song "Home."

Prayers for output!

A lot has changed in almost 17 years of hospital stays.  The beds feel smaller, the bathroom seems smaller and the pull out ‘couch’ Fred and...
