Not quite the beginning

Our second angel was brought into this world on April 8, 2009. We were thrilled to have another healthy, happy baby boy! He was much larger than Freddie - almost twice the size!
We came home from the hospital and began to navigate life with two children. Having worked since before Freddie was born and going back when he was 3 months old, it was a new world for me being home with a 2 1/2 year old and a newborn. Thank goodness my mom was here to help!
We were also blessed with a growing family business, but that also meant that Fred was extremely busy trying to get someone hired. Good problems to have certainly, just another new situation for us.
At this point we are pretty much cruising along until I get the call that I have been laid off. Not a complete shock, but it still takes a bit of an adjustment period. Still we were certain that everything happens for a reason.
I'm still technically on maternity leave, so my benefits are still intact until the end of the month. A couple of weeks go by and we get a letter that - in a nutshell - says we will not be getting Cobra insurance at the end of my leave. We are left with 3 weeks to find insurance. I had no idea how difficult this could become.
Long story short, we get temporary insurance to cover us until we can get everything figured out. During that time our sweet new baby is hospitalized twice and diagnosed with Polymicrogyria - a brain malformation that also causes seizures. Wow. We knew life was going to change, but we have no idea how.
That's the background. Now here we are, home from the second hospital visit. The latest - the seizures are going to likely be hard to control. He has anywhere from 5-10 a day. We will proceed with trying different medicines and monitor his progress, but the bottom line remains - we have to wait and see how things go.
So this is where our journey somewhat begins. Selfishly, I needed an outlet. I thought about a journal, but it seems a little too private, even for me. In a strange way, Facebook has been a blessing during all of this. I am able to post updates on what is going on and almost immediately feel the love and support from friends and family all over the world. I am also able to share how God is working in our lives through our sweet boys. That may be the biggest blessing of all.
In updating this blog I will hopefully be able to sort through my feelings and emotions, share with others in the hopes that it helps even one other person, share with our family - especially our sons - about this journey and most of all spread God's love and faithfulness to as many people as possible.
We know, without a doubt, that there is something amazing planned for our little Logan. As my wonderful husband said - God has a plan. We will be loyal.
Now we have to pray for so many things - patience, guidance, courage, love. And those are just a few. But somehow this is already helping. We have an unbelievable network of support through our family, friends, church, neighbors - even the hospital staff and insurance agent.
It's going to be a long road for all of us, but we can do this. One step at a time, with God leading the way.

A lot has changed in almost 17 years of hospital stays.  The beds feel smaller, the bathroom seems smaller and the pull out ‘couch’ Fred and...
